Gearbox Repair in Alanya — Automatic and Manual
A large share of automatic gearbox complaints can be solved without removing the transmission at all. An oil and filter change, adaptation reset and mechatronic check clear most shifting problems. We always start with the simplest fix.
"The gearbox is finished" is an easy thing to say and often wrong. Jerking, delayed shifts and sudden drops are frequently caused by tired transmission fluid, a blocked filter or a fault in the mechatronic unit — all fixable without opening the gearbox.
At Gökçeoğlu Oto a gearbox job starts with a computer scan and a road test. The transmission is not dropped until we have proven the fault is genuinely inside it. This approach has saved our Alanya customers very substantial bills.
Signs of a transmission problem
If you are experiencing any of the following it is worth having the car checked. If you are not sure, message us on WhatsApp and we will give you an initial assessment over the phone.
- Jerking, hesitation or a thump when changing gear
- Delayed engagement on an automatic, revs rising without the gear changing
- A manual gear that is hard to select or jumps out
- Noise in reverse, or reverse not engaging at all
- Fluid leaking from the gearbox (a reddish stain where you park)
- Transmission warning light, car dropping into limp mode
- A whine from the gearbox at idle or while driving
What we do in the transmission department
- Transmission oil and filter change. The single most important automatic gearbox service. Manufacturer-specification fluid and filter are used, and most shifting complaints disappear with this alone.
- Computer scan and adaptation reset. The transmission control unit is read, fault codes cleared and the shift values re-learned.
- Mechatronic unit testing and repair. A frequent cause of shifting faults on automatics. The unit is tested and renewed if required.
- Clutch pack and torque converter check. For shudder on pull-away and rising revs, the converter is assessed.
- Manual gearbox rebuild. Gears, bearings and synchro rings replaced; jumping and noisy gears repaired.
- Seals and leak repair. Gearbox seals and gaskets are renewed to stop fluid loss.
- Gear linkage and cable adjustment. A gear that is hard to select is often not the gearbox at all, but a linkage out of adjustment.

Frequently asked questions
How often should automatic transmission fluid be changed?
It varies by make and model, but 60,000–80,000 km is the general guide. In a hot, hilly area like Alanya, bringing that forward slightly extends gearbox life considerably.
Is gearbox repair very expensive?
An oil and filter service or mechatronic repair costs far less than a complete transmission replacement, which is why we try those first. If there is gear damage the work is larger, but we always tell you the cost before starting.
Can changing the fluid damage the gearbox?
Not when the correct fluid and method are used — it extends life. The horror stories almost always come from the wrong fluid specification. We use exactly what the manufacturer specifies for your car.
The transmission light is on. Can I still drive?
The car usually goes into limp mode and stays in one gear. It can be driven a short distance to the workshop, but not on a long journey. Call us and we will assess it over the phone.
